Total Donation: $61,400 |
Dear Friends, Thank you for helping us raise $61,400 for the Wounded Warrior Project! This puts the total donations from our three tournaments to $112,893! Please remember to take a moment, when you are enjoying the freedoms our country provides, to appreciate the bravery and sacrifice made by the men and women in the military, past and present, who made this possible. Sincerely, |
Deven Schei’s brother, Erik, joined the military after 9/11 and was shot in the head, rendering him a quadriplegic. Deven kept his promise to his brother to finish what his brother Erik started and joined the United States Army. Becoming a member of the 101st Airborne Air Assault Division was one of Deven’s proudest moments however, his deployment ended in injury. Deven was in a complex ambush and lost a portion of his calf, a portion of his thigh, and had shrapnel all over the left side of his body. As a result, he was left with post-traumatic stress (PTS) and a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Even with multiple surgeries, Deven’s physical pain, frustration, and anguish were not what affected him the most. He describes his greatest challenge as “not being with his brothers” - leaving them in Afghanistan was the hardest thing he ever had to do. Deven is committed to help his fellow wounded service members today as both a Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) spokesperson and a member of the National Speaker’s Association. He wants other service members to know that there is life outside of the military - he and his brother are both examples of that. Devon states: “My military service molded me into who I am today, but that's not all I am. We need to continue to move forward and not let our injuries define us.” |
